Copper tapes are used as a current transmission conductor in lightning protection systems and sometimes as ground electrodes or mesh systems. Copper tapes are produced in 2 forms such as continuous rolls or 4-meter branches depending on the thickness.
Copper tapes are the main element of lightning protection systems, which are used as vertical or horizontal conductors in this system .
Copper tapes with 99.99% purity are produced in the form of pure copper, or tin coated copper , it can be produced in various dimensions, from 20 mm to 50 mm (width), and from 2 mm to 10 mm (thickness) .
Suggested dimensions for lightning protection systems are 20×3, 25×3 or 30×3 mm, if approved by the designer.
Tape conductors can be provided in various materials, including galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
Down conductors can be chose due to project conditions with different materials, dimensions and mechanical and electrical characteristics that are in accordance with the IEC 62561-2 standard that can be used in lightning protection and earthing systems, according to the standard on page 10 , table number 1 And 2, the characteristics have been proposed, which are placed in the following table.
On the other hand, it should be noted that the minimum usable thickness (copper tape) is 2 mm.
